Unix / Solaris: how to list what hardware is installed?

Without root access, how can I list what hardware is installed on a unix (solaris) box?

I hope there's something like CPU-Z for unix shell.

perhaps, "dmesg | more"

If you are familiar with the grep command, you can shring the output for specific queries:

dmesg | grep SPARC (might yield info on CPUs ... on a SPARC-based box, of course)
dmesg | grep MB (for RAM)
dmesg | grep scsi
...

Hmm, didn't yield anything useful for me (guess we don't have / don't write many hardward errors 🙂 )

use 'prtdiag' That will give you the CPU speeds, memory, and general config info. It may not reside in your path though. do a find for it in /opt or /usr
