unix command

Went hunting online and couldnt find a straight answer, so:

What is the unix command to remove a directory recursively along with all files in the subdirectories?

TIA

Just to add to notfred's answer, be very careful if you use wildcards with the "rm -rf" command and you aren't familiar with Unix.

If you use an asterisk as a wildcard and accidentally insert a space before it, you could do much damage.
