What to look forward to the dream of universal healthcare? How about wait times that can border on dangerous to your life? What about just being inconvienced for a long time? You can bet that the politicians and similar protected classes don't have to wait as much as the common citizen.

Take a look at the stats here at the link provided and decide, is this what you want? I have personal friends who had to leavel Canada for surgery on their Doctor's advice (Canadian Doctors)

I think Conjur, Craig, Dave, and Steeplerot are probably off in a secret meeting plotting your demise as we speak... watch your back!

And you figure no Americans come to Canada for medical help?
Or how about Americans coming into Canada and trying for free help?
Then there is the whole prescription drug issue

Canadian and American health care systems compared

What's up with going to France for a nose job

France and Germany have the best Health Care systems, far better than Canada's or the USA's. We'd both do well to adopt one of those systems.

You and Jon seem to be alive and well in Canada.

Here, I'll do everyone a favor and cover everything that's going to be said in this thread.

Genx87, Palehorse, etc. "I don't like long wait lines! I want the best health care in the world and I don't mind paying more for it! It's creeping socialism and it drags us all down!"

Me and a bunch of other people "But it raises the standard of living significantly for the country, and the costs are less!"

Rinse, repeat.... repeat... repeat... repeat....

Sorry, I don't spend enough time in P&N to tell who leans in what direction. Either way, with some of the stuff I've seen here, it wouldn't surprise me if someone was being serious with a statement like yours.

Japan and Scandinavia have very good systems as well.

It is very very difficult to compare the us and canada. First off WE SPEND MILLIONS MORE THEN THEY DO. We have the an MRI every town, I dont think we will have any wait problems. Not to mention the fact that there is a huge drain on our system due to people without health insurance. It decreases the general health of everyone. Everyone being able to go to the doctor when they are sick keeps nasty virii and bacteria from spreading in public places like schools, theaters, etc.
Then there is chronic diseases. The earlier these diseases are caught the less it costs to fix it in the end. Socialized health catches these diseases earlier. Cancer and hypertension are two of which that are very important to catch early.
Finally, this is not welfare. We already have welfare. It is a huge drain as well that we are already paying for. The 50 million americans everyone talks about not having health insurance are working people who if they had healthcare would be healthier workers who would better contribute to the workforce.

Take a med ethics class or actually get to know the truth about the subject not just the propaganda both sides spew.

Need an MRI for a non-emergency, say a sports injury, be prepared to wait 30+ days.

And this is supposed to be better than the system we have now?

I think the solution to our problem is to find a way to make health insurance cheaper. Not to hand over control of the system to the government.
Any Vets on here? Tell us how great the health care your family gets is or more likely isn?t depending on where you live.
I do not understand what would drive anyone into thinking the government is the solution to a problem like this. Every major government program is too expensive, mismanaged and full of fraud and waste. This would be no different.

Typical rightwing scare tactic. Bash other countries' solutions without offering any of their own. GOP had what, 15 years to do somethign after killing Hillarycare? Did absolutely nothing, while more and more people became uninsured.

this girl at work got meningitis on vacation in australia where the medical care is socialized. she got a spinal tap that would have cost her 20,000 in the U.S.
some things are good some are bad. I think we are too harsh on our healthcare system. It's really not that bad in general.

Does a Canadian wait longer for a free MRI than an American has to work to pay for one?

Y'know... when your health is at stake, do you really want to wait?

Vs paying thousands - I'd wait. If your problem is life threatening, I'm sure they would offer you more immediate care.

I don't see how the Canadians are any less healthy than Americans, inspite of having to wait for a month to get a non-emergency MRI. It may not be instant gratification like American healthcare, but the results speak for themselves.

I'm a vet... the service that the Balboa VA hospital gives rocks. You can get anything and everything you need in very short order. Overall, excellent. Is this not the response you were expecting?
