For example, if you wanted help reformatting your laptop or troubleshooting a hardware issue, is there a place on campus that will help students for free?

What exactly is so complicated about reformatting a HDD? It's the same level of difficulty as gassing up a car.

yes, but they only do basic things and don't really have much troubleshooting abilities
Perhaps the fact that people need help with something he finds so easy makes him feel cool ??Originally posted by: timosyy

? Who said it was complicated?
Actually, my university only has for-pay tech support. I work in a computer lab where we're only permitted to set up wireless on people's personal computers, apparently due to liability issues. I was just wondering if it's unusual that my university doesn't offer this kind of support for free.Originally posted by: Brainonska511
Mine offers basic tech support, such as virus/spyware removal, reformatting, diagnosing of hardware problems along with installing replacement hardware (but the end-user must purchase said hardware on their own).
If you're living in housing on my campus, you can put in a work-order and someone will come to your room to help you out. Otherwise, there is a place on campus to take your computer.
