Some friends and I will be heading up to Wisconsin next weekend and were wondering what bars are good ones to check out. Hot girls and cheap drinks, in that order.

Further, are cabs plentiful in Madison? And how large of a city is Madision? IE, if I get a hotel in Madison, will I be able to easily get a cab / walk to the bars, or are only certain hotels even near where the students party.
 
regent street retreat/annex is great when there's games or concerts...not sure about empty weekends though

inferno is typically packed full of hotties, but if i remember correctly drinks are more expensive

the dry bean is might be a good choice for affordable drinks AND hotties
its a weird place though, it used to be a country bar, now its part country part hip hang out. I'm not sure which nights are best for the bean

there's also monkeyshines, which is nearby i think, also a cool place
 
Downtown is where you want to be and there are only a few hotels there. It might be easier if you tell us what hotels you were looking at.

Cabs are the opposite of plentiful. You will rarely just find them parked and waiting for customers.

Madison is about 300,000 people if you include all the outlying areas.

Not sure about the bar question, because my criteria are entirely different. I am more interested in good food and good beer, not cheap drinks so much. The great dane is always a good place to hit. For more trashy type stuff you could go to just about any place on the state street strip or just off it, such as the red shed, state street brats, etc. The closer you go towards the capitol on state, the older the crowd will be generally. So in your case, sounds like you want to stay more towards the library (west) state street for your binge.
 
Oh yeah, and if you are interested mostly in student hang outs, the terrace is probably the place to be. Regent st has a few good spots too.
 
yeah, I guess when I say +cheap+ drinks, I'm saying normal college kid prices. Not these $6 a beer chicago prices.
 
Speaking of State Street ... the past two weekens have been somewhat loud on state street. I know last weekend there was a testosterone convention, oops, I mean wrestling meet. What about this past weekend?
 
Churchkey, Brothers, Wandos are normally pretty good for women, but they attract a lot of "fratty" guys. Plaza, Lava Lounge, and Red Shed are known for cheaper drink specials. The Plaza and Churchkey are known for strong drinks.

If you want higher class and less Juniors head up to the square for Brocach, Natt Spill(great late night menu), or the Great Dane.

If you are a Beer lover check out the Angelic Brewery(also great for lunch).

Dancing:
Club Madison, or the Cardinal Bar (check out foam parties in the summer)

Music:
High Noon Saloon, Annex, or one of the many places on South Park

After Bar food:
Ian's Pizza(Mac & Cheese Pizza!!) , Parthenon(gyros), or Milios(subs)

Food While in town:
Amy's Cafe
Pel Meni
Charlie's
Takara ($11 for 3 sushi roll lunch special)
Jade Garden (Take out)


Responding to other suggestions:
Nitty gritty sucks unless it's your birthday. Free beer on your birthday, decent expensive food.

Inferno is nowhere near campus, and they allow smoking (a negative for me even though I do smoke occasionally), Dry Bean is almost outside of town.



My advice is to stay off of state st bars, they are normally more expensive and crappy. For hotels my advice is to stay at the Doubletree on Johnson Street, you are right in the middle of house party central (1 block south mifflin st, Dayton St, ect), and 3 blocks from most of the bars I have mentioned. Let me know if you have any other questions.


I am normally out on either friday or saturday night so if you are bummin around I can show you the sites for the price of a :beer:
 
Never heard of it. And in general never heard much about music on park street. Although there is tons on regent street.

The annex and what?
 
Mostly the annex, but it is one of the major venues in madison, so there is tons of music there compared to park st.

Personally I prefer the capitol area - with monmarte, king club, etc. And the majestic if you are into knife fighting in the parking lot.

I completly agree, I actually live on the corner of W Wash and regent and for music I will generally go up to the square or the High Noon.
 
We checked out Kollege Klub, Brothers (which I didn't realize was a chain), ChurchKey (least favorite) and Wandos.

Good times by all. Sadly, we didn't grab any late night food anywhere.
