University of Illinois

This goes out to anyone thats good with college admissions, and knows University of Illinois at all. I am applying to the school of business Finance at U of I this year. I have a 3.3 GPA and a 29 on the ACT, didnt take the SAT. I want to know what you think my chances are, (white, male) of getting into this school? I know they dont have Early Decision, and i will get my app in by the Nov 1 priority deadline, but I want to know what you think my chances are.

UIUC, I'm guessing. Do you have any extracurricular avtivities in your highschool career? Those definitely help. Sometimes they ask for an essay in which it's an additional factor, and it really depends on how many freshmen there are for the following year - more freshmen = more competition.

It might come down to what classes you were taking in high school.
29 on the ACT is plenty good.

I got into Wisconsin with a 3.8gpa (With no ap credits) and a 27 on the ACT...

But I also have a friend who didn't get in with a 29 on the ACT, but I don't think his gpa or class rank were too good. He also didn't have any ap credits. I think he also applied pretty late if I remember correctly.

I would imagine Wisconsin and Illinois would have about the same admission rates and what not....

I got rejected from U of I with a 29 ACT and a ~3.5 gpa. I don't remember if I applied to the Business or Liberal Arts schools.. but the major I chose was economics.

The U of I campus is very nice though. It has an excellent atmosphere for parties, etc.

No you messed up the cycle. I was supposed to reply THEN you.

I didn't get into UIUC with a 28 and a 3.5 and tons of involvement for the college of business. you get accepted based off what college you apply to. You probably knew that.

When I personally applied to U of I, I picked the college I thought I had the best chance of getting into that wasn't the Agriculture one. Still didn't get accepted. Class rank is a *huge* factor for U of I admissions. My gpa and act scores were well within range for the college I applied for. However, my rank was barely in the top 33% iirc.

yeah, thats what I am afraid of. Do you think I have better chances at UIC (university of Illinois at Chicago)?

There is no doubt in my mind that you will get into UIC with your ACT and GPA. I have a friend who goes there no, and the campus is getting really nice. They're building a ton of nice places to eat/hang out across the street from the suite-style student housing where he lives.

oh, well, thats cool, if I can get in there, I can go there for a year, and hopefully transfer the credits to Urbana the next year, going to school downtown would be pretty fun anyways

nah man you dont want to plan on transfering schools. Unless you know alot of friends who are going down there. Cause you will miss out on alot of freshman social activites.

well im not going to plan on that, but if I dont get into U of I, I need a backup plan

U of I rocks. Except for all the fvcking lab classes I'm in now that eat nearly every waking moment of life, it's awesome down here. It's a great place for parties, as someone said... good luck with that admission thing!

I'm engineering and math by the way, so I know nothing about you and your silly business school. 😉
