University Networks...

Hey folks I'm down here at school again and just have a question... I am using the school's network to access the internet, browsing beautifully, but there are a few things going sour...

1.) Can't connect to any IRC servers using either mIRC or even Trillian

2.) Cannot check my email using Microsoft Outlook, I get an error stating "Outlook is unable to connect to your..." when I use Outlook

Can anyone tell me if I need to change any settings, etc? I am using Windows XP RC2, according to the Comp. Lab people just tell it to obtain IP address automatically and you are good to go. Do I need to have something like Identd or something to run IRC, etc.?

Also, another squirrely thing is that my connection to the individual servers on Trillian is all jacked up, I keep getting disconnected from all the services (MSN, Yahoo!, AIM, ICQ, etc.). None of these problems showed up when I was using dialup on this exact same computer, same OS, etc. Can someone help out, thanks!!

thanks yeah I kind of took that into consideration.. but one thing is bugging me about that, a lot of my friends use yahoo, ICQ, etc, and it does not frequently shut down on them, so why is it doing it for me? hmm....

I would talk to your admin about any firewall settings and such first. Get as much info out of them as you can. You might be looking at settings on their router that they enabled that is causing your problems.
