NORAD was not notified and the passengers were able to put down the attempt.

Hopefully, there was only one hijacker on board this thread.

Okay, I'm all for free speech rights and allowing teachers/professors some leeway to do interesting stuff in their classes, but this guy crosses the line by making his students buy his (probably self-published) $20 9/11 conspiracy theory essays as a requirement to take his class.

University instructor likens Bush to Hitler

MILWAUKEE, Wisconsin (AP) -- A university instructor who came under scrutiny for arguing that the U.S. government orchestrated the September 11 attacks likens President Bush to Adolf Hitler in an essay his students are being required to buy for his course.

The essay by Kevin Barrett, "Interpreting the Unspeakable: The Myth of 9/11," is part of a $20 book of essays by 15 authors, according to an unedited copy first obtained by WKOW-TV in Madison and later by The Associated Press.

The book's title is "9/11 and American Empire: Muslims, Jews, and Christians Speak Out." It is on the syllabus for Barrett's course at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, "Islam: Religion and Culture," but only three of the essays are required reading, not including Barrett's essay.

Barrett, a part-time instructor who holds a doctorate in African languages and literature and folklore from UW-Madison, is active in a group called Scholars for 9/11 Truth. The group's members say U.S. officials, not al-Qaida terrorists, were behind the attacks on the World Trade Center and the Pentagon on September 11, 2001.

"Like Bush and the neocons, Hitler and the Nazis inaugurated their new era by destroying an architectural monument and blaming its destruction on their designated enemies," he wrote.

Barrett said Tuesday he was comparing the attacks to the burning of the German parliament building, the Reichstag, in 1933, a key event in the establishment of the Nazi dictatorship.

"That's not comparing them as people, that's comparing the Reichstag fire to the demolition of the World Trade Center, and that's an accurate comparison that I would stand by," he said.

He added: "Hitler had a good 20 to 30 IQ points on Bush, so comparing Bush to Hitler would in many ways be an insult to Hitler."

Moira Megargee, publicity director for the Northampton, Massachusetts, publisher Interlink, said the book is due out at the end of November and the editing isn't finished.

"It is not final and for all we know that essay may not be in the book or may be edited," she said.

The university's decision to allow Barrett to teach the course touched off a controversy over the summer once his views became widely known.

Sixty-one state legislators denounced the move. One county board cut its funding for the UW-Extension by $8,247 -- the amount Barrett will earn for teaching the course -- in a symbolic protest, even though the course is unrelated to that branch of the UW System.

Democratic Governor Jim Doyle and his Republican challenger, Mark Green, have both said they believe Barrett should be fired.

One essay Barrett is requiring students to read is entitled: "A Clash Between Justice and Greed," and argues that conflicts between Islam and the western world were made up after the "collapse of the Soviet Union to justify U.S. 'defense' spending, and to provide a pretext of controlling the world's resources."

The author of another essay, "Interpreting Terrorism: Muslim Problem or Covert Operations Nightmare?," contends some western intelligence agencies are commiting acts of terrorism to make them look like the work of radical Islamics.

The university's chief academic officer, Provost Patrick Farrell, decided to retain Barrett for the course after reviewing his plans and qualifications. He said Barrett could present his ideas during one week of the course as long as students were allowed to challenge them.

He later warned Barrett to stop seeking publicity for his personal political views.

Farrell said he has not seen the essay, but faculty can assign readings that may not be popular to everyone.

"I think part of the role of any challenging course here is going to encourage students to think of things from a variety of perspectives," he said.

He's late. I've posted that association several times and noted the similarity of Karl Rove's tactics of to Joseph Goebbels, Hitler's propoganda minister.

Joseph Goebbels is often (dis)credited as the originator of The Big Lie:
His primary rules were: never allow the public to cool off; never admit a fault or wrong; never concede that there may be some good in your enemy; never leave room for alternatives; never accept blame; concentrate on one enemy at a time and blame him for everything that goes wrong; people will believe a big lie sooner than a little one; and if you repeat it frequently enough people will sooner or later believe it. - OSS report page 51
Sound familiar?
All the forces of war were compelling,
And blacker than Colin, the Knight,
And the lies that they're telling, they sell in the name of their savior.

They silence the voices arising,
From those who would show us the light.
With their guys with their spies in the skies watching you and your neighbor.

And Who's Watching Over Who's Watching Over You?
Tell me who's telling you what to do what to do?

Including an essay of his own in a coursepack containing other essays & then not even requiring your specific essay to be read does not equal requiring the students to pay $20 for his essay.

I'm sure the school has plenty of alternative courses; if you don't like what this guy has to say, don't take the class. I know I would have better things to do with my tuition money.

Meh, let the market sort it out. If a school crosses lines, its diplomas will become less valuable and people will be less willing to pay for it. Like with fundamentalist higher education. I'm not concerned with making it illegal. If people want to waste their money on it, so be it. Dealmonkey, what do you think the remedy is here?

And comparing Hitler to Bush, regardless of whether you think there are similarities or not, is a decent intellectual exercise for students. It will make them inspect history and their current government, and perform analysis by comparing the two and drawing or not drawing conclusions.

Since it's an undisputable fact that the official report on the WTC is another "magic bullet" the conspiracy theory is actually coming from a small but incredibly vocal group of corporate and government shills in control of or using mass media, not including the government itself.

When the facts don't fit, you must disbelieve.

Let me put it into a quick slideshow for the slower people. The official report backed up by stacks and stacks of government and/or corporate appointed shills stand by the official report. Since pools/lakes/rivers of liquid steel was found (if I recall correctly up to 8) weeks after the collapse it makes the official report a physical impossibility. That's one single point nobody can dispute and there are dozens uppon dozens of other questions and other impossibilities I won't bore anyone with.

Bottom line; Official Report = Impossible

Read after me.... "Impossible"

If you can still swallow the story they jack hammered into your skull for years I strongly suggest you stop drinking the water and use bottled water (not the flavoured poison crap). After you change your water I suggest trying to think this through again objectively in about 6 weeks or so. I can't think of anything else to help.

P.S. I'll be the first to admit I swallowed the BS in the first few months and wanted back into the military. Thankfully I woke up when people less brainwashed than I started asking questions.

Pools of liquid steel 8 weeks later? Where do you get this kind of stuff? How the hell was it kept that hot for 8 weeks?

Hint: if you are going to push crazy stories at least try to make them credible.

BTW: Steel melts at 2500 degrees F. How the hell did it get that hot in order for you to have any "liquid steel"?

A lot of ****** points too, that video gives 9/11 conspiracy theorism a bad name.

Something odd did happen that day, but the depth and implications of it will only be revealed over time as the people who planned it pass away.

Based on physical evidence taken from small samples of the WTC? Thermate.

Dush the official report itself states the temps never reached levels high enough to melt steel. That's them saying. If the report said that it did then it would still be a physical impossiblity contrary to other examples of high rise fires including one (I'll have to look up later when I have time but I think it was in Spain) that burned like a torch for over 20 hours, not this crap little flame here and there. Oh and it stood.

You speak like an expert but you don't know the first thing about fire. When there is smoke there is starved fire. Ask any fire fighter. That other building was a fking torch, as in bright yellow almost white.

Ok that's enough you aren't going to listen so why would I waste my time on you.

Hey look - 4 posts and and the leader of the tinfoil crew hijacks the thread! Here come the prisonplanet links and the rest of his party :D And folks, remember it's ok to use racist terms if you are using in a personal attack against someones opinion you don't like!

Now I have a question - why can't Bush sue this guy for slander? He's well over the line of saying it's a "theory", he proclaims it to be fact.

Holy cow, I thought idiotic rantings and ravings of the 9/11 conspirators were over with by now.

Everything in that massively retarded "Loose Change" video has been debunked by loads of people on the internet, at universities, other research centers, Popular Mechanics and so forth. Hell even Maddox makes a decent argument on how it's all crap.

In all seriousness, Aelius, you have to be one dense illogical, irrational, and idiotic person to seriously believe any of that crap in the "Loose Change" video.

LOL . . . think for yourself? You people are doing anything but.

Whenever did I say I agreed with that video? I never even saw it. My opinions are based on other information. I cannot judge something until I have seen it but many conspiracy sites and conspiracy theories on 911 I have found to be total BS.

You lemmings done making strawman?

EDIT:

P.S. What I said is on topic. Just because you don't agree doesn't suddenly mean it's not.

Ok, I don't buy any of these conspiracies, not even a little bit but with regards to the course materials......

When I was in school, all of my degreee specific courses had books and/or coursepacks that were written by the Professor that I had to buy. I don't know all of the specifics behind academic royalties but I know they were making at least a little money off of it. This is a common practice, so enough with the whining about that.

Change your water.

Look looney toon. I am tired of fools like you sputtering "but but but....blach! Other buildings didn't fall!!".

Well lookey here sparky, there were no other buildings in history built by the towers. Furthermore, no other building took damage to it's main load-bearing members like the WTC. I know you are going to sputter "but but but....blech! What about Oklahoma", well sparky, different building design.

I know doofs like you also can't understand the idea that metal fatigues after a certain point. Think of car fires. Even though the temperatures never get hot enough to actually melt the metal, they get hot enough that the metal gets brittle and falls apart. Amazing how that happens!

Under a traditional building structure, if several interlocking cube i-beam members get brittle the structure can easily redistribute the load, not the WTC, which were quite different.

I think there's something funny in the water, but it ain't the stuff I drink.

Not a straw man. Just putting other idiotic ideas out there that idiotic people believe. Like the Bush admin blew up the WTC. Like the WTC contained demons in it's smoke. Like the atrocities of WWII never happened.

Actually, they are pretty darn rare. Now raving lefties are pretty darn common in universities, but even raving lefties are sometimes logical beings and dismiss this tripe - usually they just ignore it and tolerate it because it serves their cause.

Edit: Saw the mod post - too funny, glad to know we have an awake "Air Marshall" on board :D
