They may catch you.Just watch your bandwidth and watch what you dl.
My university only bust people after the RIAA/MPAA contacts the school.
Keep it to linux distros or RIAA safe music and dont use much bw and you should be cool.

You'll be shot in the courtyard if you are found downloading anything. Even your grandma's latest digital pics.

I worked at my college's IT department. 95% of our dorm work orders were to fix peoples computers that got hosed because of viruses and spyware thru P2P apps. Your university is doing a good thing for its IT staff and bandwidth.

Anything that uses the intranet as opposed to the internet will be fine.

Use DC++ or i2hub.

Your Uni is too nice, end-user computer repairs should be the responsibility of the users, not of the IT department. No doubt there's plenty of geeks on the side willing to make some cash out of the whole thing.

Stupid to get your net access cut off just to steal music.

Try Napster or Yahoo, $10/month to rent tens of thousands of CDs at once.

Dude, what kind of b/s statement is that? You just assume you know everything about him and that he's a damn music thief. How do you people sleep at night?

He could be downloading movies too! :p

True, I forgot to consider he might be stealing movies and software instead of music, my bad.

To the OP: Netflix, GameFly, Blockbuster. I think there's also a rental service that includes pr0n titles.

The legal ones:
* Find / make a firend who lives off-campus
* Buy your parents a DVD recorder

Otherwise play torrent roulette I guess, and hope you aren't caught, and that P2P is not yet on the list of actions that can get you in trouble with the university.

Listen, how many people have been prosecuted for simply DOWNLOADING files?

If you turn off uploads, you're fine. Just make sure you don't abuse the downloading.

Who knows? It's no different than recording shows with a vcr or tivo though. That's all I really need to download. I usually use bittorant but you have to share with that. I'm wondering if Limewire will work if I disable sharing?
