Universal Remote - need recommendation

I was thinking about getting a universal remote to control my TV, DVD player, Receiver and TIVO. Anyone got a recommendation of a good one in the $100+/- range?

that's a lot of money for a remote. I just picked up an RCA with an LCD screen and it works pretty good.

look at any of the logitech harmony line of remotes. The Hot Deals people orgasm over those remotes when there's a hot deal.

The Harmony 676 would indeed be a great choice. Or if you want to spend a little more, the Harmony 880

Logitech Harmony. I have it, and the only thing I don't like is the web-based config. Other people love it, but I got mine during Christmas, and I had to wait until after New Years to configure it because their website had so much traffic...the page kept on timing out...

Completely programmable, nice LCD screen, good learning, etc. We've been realy happy with it. $90 + S&H

I have this one. I love it. Read up on it. You can prolly find one on eBay for less than $100

Wow, that is a nicer version of the one I posted above and it sells used on fleabay for about $50 - $60. Damn good find there.

I'd think long and hard before coughing up so much money for something that you may not even like in the end. I've been through a couple universal remotes, and in the end, I much prefer a remote dedicated to the device.

Your HT Receiver's remote probably has universal ability. Why not try that for a while first?

Agreed. We got the URC-100 and the IR expander for $99 from BHphoto, and it works out great. I love it.

You know, I tried every remote that came with everything that I own and not one of them controls every function that I use regularly of every device that I have. One came close, but still fell short of some functions of my Dish Network DVR. The remote I linked above does everything and more. The channel favorites feature is great. You can program one of the LCD buttons and then name it for that channel. You can put like 50 of them in there.

I would never trade it for another. I've used a bunch of high end after market remotes, and nothing comes close to this MX-500. It's infrared is might powerful too.

All that + the fact that most remotes that come with your equipment have no macro ability which is really addicting once you start using it.

Apparantly my usage habits didn't lend themselves to any particular need for a universal remote. Only purpose it served was reducing clutter. I don't sit there with the remote in my hand constantly. To pick up one remote or another is no different than picking up the same remote over and over.

I can't believe people spend $200 and $300 on remotes! That could buy a better TV... Or hell, it would go a long way toward a nice 20" lcd monitor.

None of my remotes operate the TIVO except for the TIVO remote. The Tivo Remote operates none of my other components. I also have a wife. I would definitely benefit from a good programmable universal remote.
