Universal Orlando, 1 day or 4 day pass ? (buy 2 get 2)

I am trying to decide whether or not to go for the 4 day pass to Universal Orlando. It will cost for my family of 3 about $175 more for the 4 day pass ($357 for single day) , plus all the other costs you can't avoid, like parking, food, souvenirs and who knows what.

I'd rather stick with the 1 day but the wife just keeps talking about how much you save and I keep telling her that when you add it all up it's still a lot more.

So, the question is does the park has enough going on to warrant more than 1 day?

Why not 2 day/2 park passes? Only going getting 1 park passes leaves out Isle of Adventure.

2 day/2 park passes typically gives plenty of time to do everything in both parks.

And if you are refering to 1 day 2 park or 4 day 2 park passes. One day is not enough time to do both parks unless you are staying on site and even then at peak season you might not get to see everything both parks have to offer.

Depends who is going and how old they are.

If you like roller coasters and such go to islands of adventure and if you don't or have a kid with you head to universal studios but one day is plenty for either.

I preferred Islands but it's a long time since I went to universal studios and did not care for it much then.

There is plenty of other stuff to do if heading down there is a vacation such as the beach and other amusement parks.

From everything I have heard (family lives in the area), one day is not enough to see a Disney or Universal park properly, unless there a very minimal lines.

We went to Disney World last Spring Break, had 7 day multipark passes and still didn't get to everything. My stepdaughter went to Universal for 3 or 4 days and loved it, all of it, everyday. She is 10 years old so I would say get the 4 day if you have kids old enough to ride roller coasters. If not, one day should be fine for you and the wife.

Parking and food isn't as bad as you think. It isn't Wal Mart but it isn't absurd like the ballparks are ($9 beer anyone?).

Universal was fun, but 2 days is pushing it. I went there last year January and probably spent 6 hrs at the park and did everything I wanted to. That was only one side, but I wasn't going to pay for both. Disney / Universal stuff is freaking expensive.

Overall I think you'll like the Disney parks more. This is ultimately why I'd recommend one day, to allow more time for the much larger Disney themed parks.

EDIT:

And I recommend The Mummy themed roller coaster. It isn't a very large coaster but they set it up very well and it was entertaining. And if you go to Disney's coaster park (I forget which one it is right now), the Rockin' Roller Coaster is a ton of fun.

Whatever you do, get that Fastlane deal with the ticket. Lines are long and the shorter line is well worth the money!

Plan your ride day. Get there at opening and do the most popular rides and fast as efficiently as you can.

Who and what ages are all 3 of you will make a difference.

also, when you say 'buy 2, get 2', is that - 'you buy for 2 days, and get another 2 days free'? if so, they got you where you can't wriggle : because to see both parks of Universal, you need 2 days, but 4 days is overkill.
And that if you have a kid of 10 years or more and wants to do all the rides in Islands. For smaller kids you could spend a minimal time (2 hours max, maybe even less) at Islands and still be very happy.

If you are not the kind to go for the speed rides (or at least not all of them), then you might be able to manage in one day, but beware that it would be one looong, tiring, day.

You could check one thing - if they'd allow you to use the other 2 days at some other time. Long ago, I got some deal like that that allowed us to come back for the 2 remaining days, as long as it was within the next 365 days. That could make it worth it. Otherwise, your decision is just between - do you want to do less, but finish off in one day, or do you want to do all, and spend two days to do it. The other two days might become a bit boring for you.

Whatever you do, try to get there when the park opens, and get a local hotel for the night, and don't do like I was forced to do at times - drive back on a 4 hour-trip at the end of a tiring day at the park. Came close to driving off the road at times.

Uh, that was January. OP didn't state when he was going, but hes likely to be going during peak times. 1 Day would be pushing it to see 1 park during peak times unless you are staying onsite.
