The Supreme Court has ruled that it is legal to regulate the sale or transmission of obscenity, but that it is illegal to pass laws concerning the personal possession of obscenity.

Does that mean, one can possess animal sex movies?

I'm discussing this with a co-worker of mine, the topic at first was snuff films. my argument was that because murdering someone is illegal, the film itself would be illegal. Same with chilld porn, and by my logic human/animal sex films.

I guess I might be wrong or it might be a state law. Google is useless as it returns very bad links.

Bestiality laws are state specific, in many states there are no laws whatsoever regarding bestiality (nor should there be, IMO), though it could likely be considered animal cruelty if you were raping your cat.

As for your videotape argument, that's a rather absurd logical step. What if I videotape someone stealing a car, does that make the video illegal? What about security camera footage? If you murdered someone & taped it I'm sure the authorities would be very interested in the tape (as evidence in your murder trial), but simply containing footage of a crime does not make the tape illegal.

Child porn is illegal because there are specific laws preventing posession/distribution of sexually explicit material involving children. Raping a child & having child porn are two totally separate offenses.

BTW, for those of you who lust after the family pet(s):
