United Devices update

Dear members,

Thanks for being so patient. Below is a current update on grid.org:

A new LigandFit Pancreatic Cancer job is still pending new data from our European partner. In the meantime, the grid.org team will be performing some LigandFit post-processing script improvements on our LigandFit grid infrastructure in order to prepare for the new Cancer project data soon to arrive from our European partner. As a result, the old LigandFit Cancer job that is currently running will be suspended briefly in order for our team to make the necessary preparations offline.

The Rosetta Human Proteome Folding batches of jobs on grid.org continue to run well, and results are being post-processed nicely. Thanks for contributing your compute time.

Kindest Regards,
grid.org team

If your profile is set to "Cancer only" as mine was, you won't get any work units until the new ones are online.
I temporarily enabled the Rosetta project for now in my default profile since some of my boxes were finished with their cache of Cancer units.

Team stats are still offline as well.....
Dear members,

We forgot to mention that we continue to work diligently at repairing the Team Stats figures. The problem appears to be related to a corrupted table, which just so happens to host the team statistics; the data is ok - it's just the table that seems to be problematic. To fix, we are going through a process of 1) exporting all team stats data from the corrupted table, 2) recreating a new team stats table, 3) importing team stats data back into new table.

The explanation above sounds rather simplistic, but it's very intensive due to the enormity of the data contained in this table. Just the exercise of moving the data around via the export/import is very time consuming - so we beg for your continued patience. Thank you very much.

Kindest regards,
grid.org team

Thanks for your

no problem...

I hope they get all their issues worked out soon. Many of our teammates have gotten disenchanted since the recent forced re-registration of clients.

This morning I spent a little time fixing all the duplicate client registations I had. (186 device installs 😱)

I'm really peaved with UD. If they want my computer time for free (and I'm happy donating it for a worthwile cause) they need to have a product that works flawlessly. First the crap with the re-registration of the client, now this morning I wanted to check my stats and I can't get to their webpage. I'm seriously considering jumping ship to some other project. 🙁 I sell quite a few computers to family/friends, etc and I can't be asking them to enter passwords to this stupid reinstall of a client.

ARRGHHH. I'm getting angry again while writting this.

I feel your pain brother...

If it weren't for the specific research we've been crunching, I would have jumped ship some time ago.

They have had problems with data corruption in their database, and have to pull down the site occassionally trying to set things right.
Their biggest problem right now is stats, namely Team stats. Hopefully they will get it worked out soon.

Robbie, a UD employee, thinks they will have the new pancreatic cancer work units from Oxford loaded up in about a week.

These Rosetta WUs take a long time to crunch!

Is the due-back date longer than the cancer WUs? And how much longer?

Yeah, I think it's 3 weeks for rosetta and 2 weeks for cancer....

BTW - They reactivated the temp cancer units for those of you with boxes using <256MB ram. (Rosetta minimum req.) I fired back up my old K6-2/300 hehe 😉
