United Devices Points System - Does Config matter?

Does anyone know? If I change my available HD space in the UD device manager, will if reflect on the amount of points that I receive? What would be the optimal config? Thanks!

Yes, the more HD space you allocate, the higher your score and therefore, the higher your points. Overall, it's a fairly assinine method to generate scores, easily abused. (And, yes, I do the UD client and, yes, I do abuse it myself.)

The four different components are weighted differently, though. Processor speed, for instance, has a bigger impact on your score than your HD space.

your processor type has a bigger impact then you speed ;) (intel prefered)

Thanks! I thought so, but wasn't really sure how to figure out their points equation. My network rating has killed my overall rating because of my unstable comcast cable connection, lately. I'm averagin' 1000 points a day.... Not bad!

I feel your pain on the network score, all my machines are on Cox cable connections in Omaha (a couple different locations all over the city). My scores were averaging in the 80s-90 on network, the last three weeks I'm lucky to top 50. Now my friends 2 machines have stopped sending in results and he's gone on spring break :frown:. At least I'm upgrading to a XP 1700 on my main machine :D.

another thing you can do to cheat in points earned is to run another DC project like seti. seti eats all the cycles, UD gets almost none, but for points all that matters is how long UD is on in real time, not processor time. won't get many units this way, but you'll rack up a lot of points.

and you are still crunching something that you might otherwise not be, which is a good thing anyway. i *can* run UD and not affect my seti output, and seti is my first love. not helping out much but it is a bit.

anyhow they may have changed that in later clients.

This doesn't work. You do 1 wu in 3 days and get 1500 points for it. I do 15 wu's in 3 days and get 100 pts per wu for a total of 1500. It all balances out. I tested this about 2 months ago when I was doing ud.

Actually, Narzy, I think they may have changed their Intel bias somewhat. My 1GHz Athlon used to score 66% (since the "base" processor is a 1.5 GHz P4). In the last month or so, I've noticed it ranks as 100% most of the time. It seems that the client must run some sort of quick and dirty benchmark to determine processor rating now...

That's curious because my Athlon 1.4@1.6 used to be ranked about 106. Recently it was downgraded to 79.

Now it will run a quick benchmark when it starts and finishes a result and take the higher score. So if your playing a game or running seti or doing anything else that eats up your cpu, your score will drop quite a bit. This might hurt those who run seti or another dc project at the same time.

My current duron @ 1005 scores in the upper 90's most of the time so who knows...

In my experience, I think Memnoch is correct. The client seems to run a quick benchmark. Once thing I do is use UD Monitor to queue up 10 units and go idle on the other stuff during upload/download. That way the client has full CPU access and gets a high score.
