Unique bsod issue with WinXP

Each evening I boot my computer, and each day it crashes after a couple of minutes giving me a BSOD and quite often a IRQL_NOT_LES_OR_EQUAL_TO error. I reboot the machine after this crash and the machine works for the remainder of the evening. The next day the exact same cycle continues - crash within minutes of first boot and then stability at second boot. What gives???

System is an AMD 1800+, Abit KR7A, 256Mb Micron DDR, Radeon 8500LE, SBLive, 40Gb Maxtor hd, D-Link DE-528 NIC, Pioneer DVD (also have Lite-On CDROM, but system will not boot properly when installed, so it is disconnected).

Who wants to take a stab at this one?

Why would ram cause the system to crash on first boot and not second?

Well, back when i had two sticks of conflicting ram, i would have problems with Quake3. Sometimes it would crash 5 mins into the game, and at others, it wouldn't crash at all. Maybe there's just a spot where the ram's dysfunctional.

Not sure - I only turned off the automatic reboot recently so I have only been able to check the type of error a few times. I don't think that they have all been "IRQL_Not..." errors though. Again, the strange thing about these crashes is the pattern - 1st boot crash, 2nd boot fine. What is there that is different in a reboot following a crash should be the key to the problem, no??
