Mine averaged out to about 2 hours pay per month for many years, but about 10 years ago, the union instituted a supplemental dues program, in which the contractor pays a percentage of our dues (part of the collective bargaining package) up to about 40 cents/hour, and any monies added to that comes out of our wage increases. When I last worked, (12/03) I was paying about $60/month PLUS 55 cents/hour. Had we NOT gone with the supplemental dues, I'd have been paying well over $100/month. (It was ~$80/month 10 years ago)
Fortunately, union dues are deductable, (although you don't get the same amount of benefit you would have if you didn't pay them) and when I compare wages between what I make as a union hand and what the non-union folks who do similar work make...I'll GLADLY pay dues. If it costs me $100/month, and the difference in wages is $10-$15/hour...It doesn't take much to make up the cost of those dues.
I call the difference in pay "Non-Union dues"...and I'd sure hate for people to think I can't add...
