I know most of you are not unionized, so please ignore this thread!

They work out to be 2.2% for me. It's unfortunate because we're not even legally allowed to strike. It's a lot of my salary gone without needing to have a strike fund.

I read the first part of this going.. "Un-ionized? What the fsck is un-ionized? I don't think I'd want to be ionized..."....

Then I read the complete sentence and was like, "Oh.. unionized".. LOL

Mine averaged out to about 2 hours pay per month for many years, but about 10 years ago, the union instituted a supplemental dues program, in which the contractor pays a percentage of our dues (part of the collective bargaining package) up to about 40 cents/hour, and any monies added to that comes out of our wage increases. When I last worked, (12/03) I was paying about $60/month PLUS 55 cents/hour. Had we NOT gone with the supplemental dues, I'd have been paying well over $100/month. (It was ~$80/month 10 years ago)
Fortunately, union dues are deductable, (although you don't get the same amount of benefit you would have if you didn't pay them) and when I compare wages between what I make as a union hand and what the non-union folks who do similar work make...I'll GLADLY pay dues. If it costs me $100/month, and the difference in wages is $10-$15/hour...It doesn't take much to make up the cost of those dues.
I call the difference in pay "Non-Union dues"...and I'd sure hate for people to think I can't add...;)

$21 per month plus .40 per hour dues check-off which is technically paid by the employer.

A very good bang for the buck.

Not union anymore (though they still want me to pay dues). Ours were $80/month for what boils down to $$ to protect the lazy and incompetent.

Mine is 1.7% of the top increment in the pay scale. It works out to 2.2% for me, since I'm not near the top of the scale yet.

I think it was 2hr/mo at the last unionized place i worked.

Didn't bother me though, as I was making double what I'd have been making had it been non-union.

What did suck was getting bumped to graveyards.

why?

..a flate rate would require them to justify an increase rather then automatic increases tied to a %.
