Labor union leaders emerged from talks with President Barack Obama on Tuesday vowing a side-by-side battle against Republicans to bring about higher taxes on the wealthy as part of an effort to avoid the so-called fiscal cliff.

"It was a very, very positive meeting," AFL-CIO President Richard Trumka told reporters in the White House driveway after the meeting.

"The president, like we are, [is] committed to preserving the tax breaks for the middle class and making sure that rich people pay their fair share. He's very, very committed to that, we are committed to that," Trumka continued. "We are very, very committed to making sure that the middle class and workers don't end up paying the tab for a party that we didn't get to go to. And the president is committed to that as well."

stop trolling.

PS

Big union only cares about how big they can get.

P.P.S. Just shows you that liberals will sell out to speical interest and claim its ok, as long as that speical interest pays them.

Hell yeah... thats how Rickard Trumka will maintain his lifestyle... which is one much better than the peons he represents.

"As he's climbed the ranks of AFL-CIO leadership, Trumka has moved away from his modest roots. His 2011 compensation package at AFL-CIO totaled $293,750, according to LM-2 disclosure forms on file with the U.S. Department of Labor. Trumka apparently lives in a four-bathroom house assessed at $747,650 in Rockville, MD, a suburb of Washington, DC."

Ever had a job?

You may come to look upon "special interests" in a different manner some day.

And despite being at the low end of the top earners in this country, he is asking that his kind be taxed more so that they aren't selling out this country just so they can buy another bottle of vintage wine. You have to respect that.

Me thinks the shennanigans the Repubs have committed over the past four years, especially their blatant attempts at killing off unions and disenfranchising/suppressing primarily Dem voters have inspired the unions to a higher level of activism to match or exceed the activism the Repubs have operated under since their horrendous losses in 2008 and the Dems impressive wins in 2012, despite the Repub's alarming attempts at winning at any cost in the legislature and in the voting booths.

In this regard, the Repubs have only themselves to thank for the unions stepping up and committing themselves to a more concerted effort to represent their interests at the national level.

If you're big business, the cost of your Democrat protection money just went up.

I'm sure that once the last manufacturing is driven from our shores, good times will be rolling in to fill the vacuum.

Perhaps you should tell the President that.

He seems to think labor leaders DO have an impact upon the issue of the fiscal cliff.

Has the Persident contacted you yet - for your opinion?

Well they can buddy up with Obama and wage war all they want. There isn't a damn thing a labor union can do about taxes on the rich. What are they going to do, picket a mansion? Good luck with that.
