Uninterruptable Power Supply/Source Questions:

I have used Trippliote UPS's for about 5 years now, and have never seen those terms or options. They are really confusing. A UPS provides temporary battery power to connected systems when local power goes off or is below a minimal threshhold.

By the definitions in your link, I would choose "Standby." I have three UPS's - and all work that way. I only connect the computer/CPU and essential external drives - not the monitor. Once in a while we get a power hiccup - like when the power company switches over improperly and it is a quick off/on. The UPS's immediately respond and allow me to gracefully save and exit.

The UPS's are "on" all the time with the batteries being charged. The connected devices that go through them are connected to the battery backed up plugs - but when power is normal, they are on direct A/C
