I checking my startup and this file was there: uninstsc30.exe and it was checked, i never had it there before. I ran a virus scan and it found nothing but it is suspicous since i looked at the file and it says created tuesday january 16, modified Friday september 24th 1999 and Accessed Today Feburary 1st 2002. I'm running Windows ME and its in the windows folder. Does anyone else have this and know what its for/does?

A google search returns nothing.

I keep hearing about alot of these p2p sharing programs containing spyware, could that be?

Uncheck it from the startup tab of msconfig. See if it installs itself again, if it does you have to check the registry.

Best not to delete the physical file just yet...see if anything doesn't function properly. Also make note of your tray icons before & after.

The only thing I could find that's even close to that file name is some German program called "Erazor 2000", which is supposed to run Scandisk automatically or multiple times, or some such. It's the same filename, minus the "30" before the .exe. It appears to be an uninstaller of some sort.

Right-click on the filename in the folder it lives in, and choose Properties. See what it tells you about the file (version, manufacturer, etc.)

Additionally, if you haven't done so already, get a free firewall like "ZoneAlarm" and install it. It will let you know if some backdoor trojan is trying to access the net (like a keystroke logger, etc.)
