uninstallling OS to disable APCI

I need to disable APCI on my ECS K7S5A because I'm having sleep issues and to do so apparently I need to uninstall my OS first. I'm running WinME upgrade from Win 98. Do I need to unstall the upgrade to go back to Win98 and then uninstall Win98, then go into bios and disable APCI or can I simply disable APCI after uninstalling WinME, then re-install the WinME upgrade?

Thanks,

Why do you need to uninstall the OS?
To uninstall APCI on the OS level, go to the Control Panel, System, Device Manager.
Under the Device Manager, open the Computer tree. There should be an APCI tree and you can switch it to a standard computer from there, or delete the APCI.

On the BIOS level, there should be a setting in there, not sure where, depends on your mobo/bios...

That's just a really simple registry change. I've done it once or twice a couple of years ago-as instructed in a motherboard manual (fic 503+ I think.) Seach MS knowledge base too as I've seen it there too. Sorry I don't remember the exact change you have to make, but it was just one key value.)

I got the info from the FAQ for the K7S5A at OCworkbench. I tried disabling it at the BIOS level and I couldn't get my OS to come up after that. I'll try it in the control panel.

I disable sleep and it still seems to sleep. Then I can't get control back unless I reset. There are many issues with this MB and I don't want to rip apart my PC and RMA the board if I can help it.
