I can't find MS Virtual Machine on the Add/Remove programs list and its been giving me some trouble ( @ sportsline.com, whenver I try to go into Gamecenter for any game my computer randomly restarts instantly ) and I'd like to just use J2RE now.

Is this is a MSVM problem or something else? If anyone knows a fix, LMK. If not, information on the uninstall is appreciated :D

Thanks guys

go ahead and install j2re, then if it is still using msvm, check your internet explorer settings under the "advanced" tab... there should be a "use sun java" section

Also if you d'load ( not though Windows Update ) WinXP SP1a and manually service pack, it seems to strip MS JAVA. Anyway, that was my experience when installing a new machine from and original build WinXP Disc.

Yep, although who knows how this is going to change now that Sun and MS have settled all of their lawsuits... Maybe MS will be able to distribute it's jvm again... You'd think after paying $2 billion to Sun that they would be able to...

try searching for and deleting msjava.dll after getting the real (read: sun's) java installed. I had to do this on a machine at work, and it didn't seem to have any ill side effects. Since nothing is guaranteed in the windows world, this fix isn't either.

Did that, however when I went to this page I got a popup from IE prompting me to download Java virtual machine, saying "To display this page correctly you need to download and install the following components: Java virtual machine."

When I was visiting that page, I saw the java icon in my systray...

Should I d/l them or not? thanks
