Uninstalling DX8????????

I always make an image (Ghost) of my boot partition before installing any new DX .. so easy to restore the image if the new DX gives you probs.

pretty smart 'Radboy' will norton ghost work? or is there a better program that i can use. Im not too familiar w/'ghosting' some links or info would be nice.

If you're running Win 2K, you're S.O.L., last I checked, no DXUninstaller would work with Win 2K, and the only way to remove DX8 was to reformat and reinstall. I had to restore my ThinkPad software because DX8 was incompatible with my software DVD plaver, so at least you know you're not the only one who's been screwed over by DX8.

Yes, I had to restore the image. All my games were crashing/locking/freezing w/ DX8 .. not sure why .. and I have a Radeon, which is supposed to be designed w/ DX8 in mind. Maybe I'll have better luck w/ DX8.1. Takes less than 10 mins to restore.

yea... i myself thought dx7.0a was the best. i think ill just reformat and install 98 over, i need it anyways...too much junk. than create an image, so i dont mess it up again.

wow i never knew there was a prob with dx8. has it really been that detrimental to all of your systems?

It may more of a video driver problem than a DX8 issue. From everything I have read, all of the DX8 compatible drivers for the major cards are still rather infantile. DX8 is a radical change and it will take time for the chipset makers to make "flawless" reference drivers. I remember that decent drivers for DX 7.0 took months to surface (but I was dealing with 3DFX then). Thankfully, I don't plan to buy any DX8 required games for at least two months so DX 7.0a is where I am staying.
