At least I've got my old Cheetah X15-36LP in there, disk I/O ain't the holdup ;)

Hahahaha... well, fancy that. It is maybe that my use of a computer is too basic. I rarely do anything out of the ordinary with my computer. I IM a lot, and do have a good P2P traffic in one of my computers.

Still, quite tight use, I must say.

BTW, mechBgon, what services do you turn off?

Does this worki without affecting file sharing within a network?

On my home system, I turn off Computer Browser and Indexing Service and import the high-security workstation template in Control Panel > Administrative Tools > Local Security Policy, for now. Remember it's a Win2000 Pro system, although I'm planning to switch to WinXP Pro really soon here.

Chapters 3 and 5 of this guide might be helpful to you if you have WinXP. I don't have WinXP at home (yet) but when I do, it'll be WinXP Professional so I can do most of the stuff discussed there, short of having a domain.

Chapter 3 has a section especially on Services: link to it. They discuss the impacts of the possible changes they suggest, including file sharing in a peer-to-peer fashion, something I'm actually not very well-informed about myself. Having only one home computer makes it tough to practice... I can't find an Ethernet jack on the coffeemaker OR the dishwasher!
