Neighbor has a DIY box he's trying to play a gane on and heres the prob:

At some point he had an old mb and a big hdd so he used a drive overlay prog. to force the bios to see the full capacity. Now he has a new mb, fresh install of 98 so no uninstaller of the overlay and no second hdd.At first I said to use the uninstaller and if not use a second hdd to boot to and fdisk the mbr but he doesn't have a 2nd drive.

So what can I try next to get this off.. he doesnt even remember who the overlay was made by.. ..

He wants to put XP on the box but had a prb installing 2k with this overlay so im guessing XP will react the same way.Any ideas? Will the Maxblast disk work ya think?

couple of thing you can do is, 1) download that drives makers overlay program ie maxtor has maxblast, samsung is disk manager.
2) if that does not work, and if he is going to format that drive, boot with a win98 boot disk and run fdisk /mbr bootdisk.com if you do not have access to a 98 boot disk

se7en,

The only was I've been able to get rid of a DO was to boot to the manufacturers disk (Maxblast, SeaTools, etc.). It will detect the presence of the overlay already installed and SHOULD give you the option to uninstall it.

Let us know.

With a new motherboard, I strongly recommend you fdisk, reformat, and do a clean install of XP from scratch.
