We are a group of dedicated volunteers who are, as you say, "regular users".
Regarding whether we were selected "for some reason", that might be debatable. 😉

Thanks for the quick response. Obviously you have been selected for your exceling knowledge on the subject.

You are on timeout for a week for your remarks. Do not attempt to create another identity or you will be banned permanently.

Hmm... I guess Bigsmooth had something not very nice to say about the Mod's.

I've always wondered if many of the Mod's have "regular" accounts that they post from.

Surely they all do. They did not spring full-grown from the brow of Zeus, after all. They were, I presume, long-term AnandTech members at the time when they were chosen to moderate the forums. I doubt that they would have to give up posting under their usual identities. Perhaps they can even moderate themselves when they get out of line. Or ban themselves if they are feeling really, really schizy.

Lots of buttkissing 😉

No, you just have to be damned committed, and you have to be good in anand's eyes, or at least the admin of the forums...

<<Hey, fella, don't point that finger at me or my police dog may bite it off!>>

Ahhh so you're part of the k-9 unit then? 😉

You send that dog after trolls and neffers?

Cool, I want to see one of them do that. That wouls be the funniest thing. If I was a mod and I went on vacation or something, i would poat a thread about something and then ban myself and lock it at the top, so whenever anyone logged on, they would laugh there A$$ off, i know I would. But I also think alot of things ar efunny when there not.

Good question. I suspect they are the ones who are very timid and correct in their postings and rarely get into flame wars. But hey, I'm not the right person to be answering this...

<< so do mods being mod forever or they have to do something to keeping it >>

I assume that to keep the position, a few things must be maintained.

-A presence on the boards. A mod can't mod if they're never logged on.

-Fairness, abiding by the rules, etc. If a mod can't be fair and abide by the rules, then how could he/she be expected to moderate others on those same virtues?

You never know.... for all we know Paulson could secretly be a Mod. Then your wish of a Mod banning himself will have come true a few times in the past.
Neffing would be a good disguise for a Mod. Nobody that has garnered a reputation as a Nef would ever be accused of secretly being a Mod.
