Wow! I think I might have a deal to finally post in here. Went to kmart today and they had a uniden 900mhz digital cordless phone marked down from $24.99 to $14.99 so I took a chance and bought it. When I arrived home I found that there was also a $10 rebate in the box from uniden (expires 12/31/00) so total price was $4.99 + sales tax. Not a bad deal IMO, will post report on the phone when it's charged and ready. Model # is EXL-8901, and has a long distance button feature that automagically dials 10-10-811 for LD.... Hope I can find a way to change this feature, I called the LD provider and they were $.10 daytime, $.09 evening, and $.05 nightime. This doesn't lock you into using their LD, just the use of one button to autodial 10-10-811.

Ult :D

10-10-811 is not aq bad deal. if you call them at their 800#, they have a deal for .05 a min. this is in-state or out of state w/no monthly fee. the only catch is that there is a 10 minute minimum per call. we compared our previous usuage and we always came out ahead, even when we made those 5 or 6 min. calls. i've been with these folks for several years and have had no bad experiences. you are billed right on your regular phone bill.

by the way. good post on the phone. believe it or not, uniden is a very reliable, good working cordless phone. friend at walmart electronics that knows his stuff, told me they have fewer returns on uniden than any other brand they carry, and they carry them all!

We have been using 10-10-811 for quite some time now also. Has helped my long distance bill go down a lot.

Just wanted to say nice deal, which KMart (location/city/state) did you get this deal at?

Woah, that's one ugly phone but heck for $4.99 you can't beat that!

Oops! Kinda forgot about that RossMan: I am in Fort Worth Texas and the store is on Hulen Street. We also picked up frequency on DVD there for $12.88.

Ultanium - Frequency was an awesome movie, you got a great price on it I paid $14.99 at Buy.com less coupons, 10% shoppin.net and free shipping.

Did I hear "...friend at walmart electronics that knows his stuff..." LMAO, he's the needle in the haystack

I've gotta second the vote for UNIDEN IS CRAP, as an owner, after 6 months, my $99 phone crapped out. (battery could hardly hold a charge afer 3 Mo., replaced the Battery, worked for another 3 Mo, then totally died) They probably refurbed it and sold it at K-mart for $4.99 :) Enjoy!!

since when?? I've always heard great things about uniden phones and i've had a couple. If you buy the cheap cordless phones they stink but most their 900mhz phones are pretty good.

However, I am replacing a 900mhz digital phone right now that suddenly crapped out :) one day i just picked it up and I'd press "talk" but it'd just flash "talk", like it was trying to find the base. Oh well. I also have a Uniden 900 that I've had for years, so I guess it's just the luck of the draw :p

What cordless phone is good if Uniden is not??

The phone I HAD was a a 900MHz w/ headset that I bought for my wife for Christmas. I actually think it was about $150 come to think of it...BUT, I bought it off HSN(home shopping network... it was late, it was payday, she wanted a phone, you figure out , so that may or may not explain the reliability of the phone

UNIDEN PHONES ARE THE BOMB!

I had one of the first digital spread spectrum phones 900 mhz by uniden several years ago, and its still working great today. Great range. I have a newer 2 line uniden 900 mhz digital spread spectrum phone, and its working ok as well.. for $4.99 its a great deal!

Talking about long distance. I'm just using the new sprint 2000 for $50 plan. That's 4 cents a minute, plus a cell-phone. I was spending about $200-300 a month on a cel+long distance, so this new plan was definitely a life saver. I'm thinking about getting a cel+plan for my mom for x-mas, since she makes a lot of long-distance calls, too.

Sat

ps, if you don't need 2000 minutes, the 1500 min for $35 is an even better deal. That's... (pulling out my calculator) 2.3 cents a minute. Even if you only use up like half of those minutes, that's still less than 5 cents a minute, and you've got the convenience of a cel phone.

Id first check if your local Office Max has them...about a month ago they were clearanced to UNDER $10 plus the rebate so they came to FREE!!! They may still have some left!

You gotta check the store and actually have it rung up as a purchase, b/c they did an instant rebate on the receipt...the price on the shelf will be wrong and a "price check" will not include the instant rebate!
