unicows.dll HELP

I am working on a system that has the following error code whenever the owners of the system try to check their email on msn messenger:

ERROR THE SPECIFIED MODULE COULD NOT BE FOUND [UNICOWS.DLL]

They have installed the new version....still comes up. UNINSTALLED it and reinstalled it, still comes up.

They have Windows XP Home Edition.....and I've searched and the ONLY fix available is for 95, 98 & ME. Can anyone help me with this one? This is a new one to me.

http://www.dll-files.com/dllindex/dll-files.shtml?unicows <--- is the file you can manually download; I have no idea where it might go, though. Some more Googling might get you an answer on that one.

EDIT: never mind, the comments had the answer right there.

I don\'t know why this wasn\'t more highly published -- it took me a week to find this solution for getting this error on XP. So, I\'m spreading it around. When I purposefully broke it on my box I got the EXACT same error. If you have XP you aren\'t supposed to NEED unicows.dll at all. Follow these steps: 1. Click: Start 2. Click: Run 3. Type: %programfiles%\\MSN Messenger You will probably end up in a folder called: C:\\Program Files\\MSN Messenger ... if not, find your MSN Messenger install folder. 4. Find the msnmsgr.exe file and RIGHT click on it. Choose \"properties.\" 5. A window will pop up. Click on the \"Compatibility\" tab. 6. Make sure all boxes are UNchecked. If the top box WAS checked, then that is why the error was happening. Now try MSN.
