my current specs AMD XP 2000+ @ 2600+ , 6600gt , 2 sticks of duel channel 512 mb ddr 400(1024mb)

and theirs :
AMD Athlon 64 FX-55
2 x 512MB OCZ PC3200 EL Dual Channel DIMMs 2-2-2-10
MSI K8N Neo2 nForce3 Motherboard
NVIDIA ForceWare 66.93 Drivers


ok looking at the 640 x 480 they scored 191.8 fps WTH i am only scoring 86 fps... on same resolution adn setting drivers everything.. only that cpu got big gap... but 100 fps?!?!?!? wth its abit ridiculous right? only at higher resolutions like 1280x 1024 was the score more similar...
something must be wrong with my system .. the stress test were similar for different resolutions on my systems 96fps - 90 fps .. only a difference of 6 fps between 640 x 480 - 1280 x 1024 ... WTH!@!@!
 
CPU and mobo difference is more than you think. Also the ram timings add in better performance. Also, its about correct, I had a machine b4 that was stuggling to stay above 60(dips to low as 30)FPS with regular CS even with 9500 pro @ 800 by 600 res, then I upgraded to A64 + 754 board + ddr400 with 2-3-2-5 @ 1:1 and now I'm at 1280 by 720 res @ constant 99fps and can even turn on AA and AF with little performance hit with the latest drivers which I also used in my old set up. The difference is alot, your GPU is bottle necked up to its ass with that IMHO. Also don't XP proc. have only half the cache of 64 proc? and FX have 1mb, you should be happy with your results.
 
is performance difference between a axp and athlon 64 alot? well after spending money on a 1gb ram and a 6600gt i am quite broke.. recommendf me a worthwhile upgrade thanx
 
The A64s really are great new chips. And you're comparing a platform that hasn't been close to top of the line for a couple of years with the current, unaffordable-by-the-masses flagship product.
 
640x480 is like 100% CPU dependant so a FX55 will completly kill a 2600XP.... Once the video card takes over with highier resolutions yeah they will be a bit more similar just not exactly alike.
 
You also have to figure in that when Anand benches, they run the tests with sound disabled, so that saves them a few FPS as well. They wrote an article on the performance hit of sound cards earlier this year. I'm too lazy to look for it, but it was interesting nonetheless.
 
unless theres a huge difference at higher res between the 2 I wouldnt bother. Oh yeah and that extra 100FPS or so is several hundred dollars more which IMO if sad.

BTW whoes gonna run 640x480?
