Unformatted flash drive

I got a 4gb sony micro vault 2.0 thumb drive from a friend and he told me if i could get it to work i could keep it.

Seems that he screwed up while formatting the drive, and now when i plug it in, windows will find it, but when i try to access it i says "Please insert a disk into drive f:"

I tried formatting it from dos, using fdisk, but its not found.

I tried Knoppix and Slax and they both dont see the drive at all.

I tried the HP formatting tool, http://h18007.www1.hp.com/support/files/hpcpqdt/us/download/20306.html, and it sees it but cannot access/format it.

Im out if ideas... 🙁

Start > Control Panel > Admin Tools > Computer Mangement > Disk Mangement.... assign a new drive letter and see what happens.
