As a post-MLK day thread I thought I'd just check what people thought about the show and/or man. From the videos I'd say this guy was one of the best boxers of all time and pushed for equality by essentially demanding and acting like he should have it - which he did in a lot of ways - that is until people in the gov't figured out ways to take him down.

They way society was portrayed back then was astounding - it really reminds one how far we've come as a nation and I couldn't help but think how history will portray us. I'm sure a lot of people didn't think they were doing anything wrong back then but it's quite obvious it was wrong now. Just something to think about....

Back back to the 2 part series - it was awesome. Jack Johnson was a pimp waaayyyy before it was cool. He led a crazy life and pretty much dominated in the ring.

But seriously - his blackness was the f'ing man. Hanging with white women, kicking serious a$$, driving fast cars, owning nightclubs, gold teeth.....

need I say more? This guy had cajones so big he must have needed a wheelbarrel - a good number of the white folk must have been RIPPED!!! I love it!

sure did - b/c she married him her life was probably harder than his. If there is anything racist of the time hated more than black people it was people that loved them. Reminds me of a funny dave chapell skit heh....

James Earl Jones did a fantatstic job with his character in The Great White Hope
It was a bit boring, but the history aspect kept me there.

They made reference to the movie in the show but I have not seen it - perhaps I'll check it out sometime....
