Everyday our compaq servers take a dump and reboot by itself... any ideas.. I was thinking of heat.. maybe its that..but it never did that when I burn tested RC5 for 5 days. Yes they are running RC5 but all they are doing is file servering and they dont do anything else other than that.

Ideas?

I hate compaqs!! And yes paulson you were right! :)

Its a compaq... :p

I've heard those servers are pretty succeptable to heat. What software are you running on them?

NT 4.0 Server.. with a backup software on one which loads once in a while.

All they do is file share from the massive drives.

stop running RC5 and see if it stops crashing. with rc5, the cpu's are running full load all the time, and can cause excessive heat. if shutting down rc5 helps, then you got a heat problem. either stop running rc5, or try to add some fans to the system.

I am going to stop RC5 and see what happens. However it was running fine on my table for 5 days running rc5.

THe copmuter has several fans.. you can see when rc5 runs the fan behind the processor starts up and doesnt stop. that fan is LOUD.

It could be a brown out, maybe a UPS would fix it? Not sure though, thats what my problem was.

They are on UPS's.
I dont think its to do with Brown outs' they have a 1500W ups and there are 3 ups for 3 machines
they are APC ups's too.

Anyway I checked the log, we are running 3Com's Gigabit cards for the servers. It seems there is a pattern here on the logs to it auto reboot. The fact is many a time people cant connect to teh servers. This is weird being flaky. Has anyone had flaxy connections on fiber lines?
