Unexplained floppy access

I have a computer that, for no apparent reason, will start to access the floppy drive. This happens no matter what program is running. I've done a virus scan using AVP with current virus definitions. All software running in the background is running on both my machines, and I only have this problem on 1 machine. Task manager shows nothing unusual running.

system:

Classic Athlon 650 MHz
FIC SD-11 MB
256 MB Ram
Win 98SE

Networked with my other computer, and sharing my cable modem through an SMC Barricade router-thigie

Programs running:

RC5
Starr (key logging program, to keep up with what kids do on computer)
Windows task Scheduler (any advice on how to permanently turn this off would be appreciated)
Zone Alarm
AVP Monitor
Aopen sound card utility (I'll turn this off if I can drag the wife away from Dialo II)

There may be more, this is what I remember without being in front of the computer.

If there is any more information needed, let me know.

Tell windows to stop looking for a new floppy drive in the performance tab of the system control panel. There was also something about .lnk floppy links in the registry that you might not need but it remembers from old installs. Not sure though. Try the first one suggestion first.

Thanks. As soon as I get home I'll give that a try.

.UPDATE: OK I'm at home now and did as you suggested. Hopefully it will do the trick. It was set that way in my other computer also, and I don't believe it's been accessing the floppy, but the drives are behind a door, so I may just never have noticed it
