Found out today that my PSU fried and took my motherboard with it. Luckily it took nothing else but it has forced me to upgrade because of the limited choices of parts that still support my CPU.
Well it's been about 3-4 years since my last real upgrade and I can't really go on using the old 733mhz pIII w/ 56k and onboard video much longer I decided an upgrade is really the only option. However with such short notice I haven't been able to research much on the parts so I tossed this list together on short notice. Any help and recommendations would be much appreciated. Im trying to keep the build to under 1000 after everything.
CPU - C2D e6300 $187
Looks like the best bang for buck CPU right now.
Mobo - Gigabyte GA-965p S3 - $108.99
Heard some good reviews about it but if anyone knows a better mobo and a similar or cheaper price it would be appreciated.
GPU - eVGA 7950GT KO 512MB - $266.99
Was gonna get the 8800gts but I just can't seem to toss out the extra 200ish for it so I figured I'll grab something that will hold me over till prices drop. ~1year Any extra suggestions are welcome.
EDIT: OR Sapphire x1950xt 256mb $229.99
RAM - G.Skill 1x1gig DDR2 800 - $184.99
Was the cheapest 2x1gig ddr 800 ram I could find and it should hold me over unless there's something better/cheaper.
PSU - Fortron - AX500 - $84.99
I heard this was a good powersupply but wondering if there's anything cheaper that's just as good. Not sure how big of a PSU I would need but any kind of recommendations here would be a lot of help.
Extra Items - 80gig sata hd + old 320 gig pata HD/dvd burner/sound blaster live 5.1
Is there anything I'm missing? Thanks. The total currently comes out to be $965.31
