I came home from taking my mom's car to get a flat fixed & found a letter from the Oregon Department of Revenue. WTF? It's a long damn ways away from tax season, but the window showed green. Sure enough, a $92.10 kicker check.

Too bad I'm making a shove to get out of debt, it'll all go to Citibank.

Still a nice surprise though.

First I'm not old enough to go to a bar, second getting out of debt is more important to me right now.

If it wasn't I wouldn't have sold 85% of my DVD's.

I got my kicker check today too - $42.18. (i only worked in oregon half of last year.) But hey, 42 bux is 42 bux, and it'll help pay the bills.

It sucks living in washington and paying that damn oregon income tax - i get no benefits other than driving on their roads.

You've got the right attitude Viper.

Good luck with paying your debts.
I can tell you when the debts are paid it feels like a weight is being lifted from your shoulders.
But it is OK to have some fun now and then. ;)

My biggest reason is that I want to finance a vehicle in February/March or somewhere thereabouts & right now my FICO score is pretty low. The only thing I can change on it is my debt/credit ratio, I'm young so I'm not going to have much credit history. I've never missed a payment, never gone over balance, etc, etc, etc, but the ratio is too high right now.

Goal 1: Pay off credit card debt
Goal 2: Sign up for 401k program at work
Goal 3: Save up for a downpayment on a car

:)

why not save some and enjoy some? I can stand to stockpile all of my money. Its not worth it. I cant understand the mindset.

Viper! Get on that 401K thing now! I'm young too (24) and have been saving since i was 21. I try and increase the percentage witheld from each check each time i get a raise. It is the easiest way to get a guaranteed return if your company matches it, or dumps in profit sharing revenue into there.

I hit two elk. Or rather I hit one & one hit me, three ran across the road at the same time I was coming by. I hit the first one in line, the second one broadsided me. The third one I missed.

Hey, 2 out of 3's not bad, right?

And yes, the repairs would be more than the car's worth. It's an '89 Accord with 180K on it, it's not worth much at all.

NccOps

I'm 19, and my employer does match a percentage up to 5%... Damned if I remember what that percentage is. I figure I'll put in whatever they'll match to.

Viper - smart thinking. Always put in at least the max that your employer will match.

Ex: I put in 6% out of each check, my employer matches me 50% of what i put in up to 6%.

Not only that, now days most do a profit sharing that goes directly into your 401k account once a year. My employer puts the profit sharing and all of the matching funds in at the end of the 1st quarter each year.

I wish they would match right away so i could get the interest right away, but oh well..

Yup, I take light rail now. :( Still paying insurance on the vehicle though so my rate will drop once I hit one year with the company.
