Wow, I really feel for you. It must be hard, having a family and being unemployed. My friends, coming out of college, were unemployed but they just lived with their parents while looking for work (and didn't have any mouths to feed) so it wasn't that rough for them. I can't begin to imagine the horror of not having a job while married with a child. This is one reason why I would think twice before having a child when I ever get married.Originally posted by: Oyeve
Yes, I have planned for this. I have a sizable amount of money in my savings, a 401k. Still, How long can that last? i have been searching nonstop for work for 7 months and have gone on dozens of interviews. The job market sucks, the economy sucks. Unemplyment down? No, they say UE is down but in reality benefits have run out for many so the numbers of UE recipients is lower not that there are more jobs. Now I have to spend money that I have been saving for years to send my son to college just so we can survive. And when that runs out I will probably have to dip into my IRA. And when I finally do get a job it will be like starting all over again. I'm 38, while not an old fart, starting over at my age just plain sucks.

Yep, I'm in that boat myself. Graduated in May, and have yet to find a job. Then again, I'm living at home, and my mother kicks a$$, as she helps me with expenses when she has the chance. I hate having to rely on that and credit cards, but at least I'll be able to pay it back soon. Luckily they actually pay you to go to graduate school, so after this year I should be alright.

Just wait until Tax time and find out how much you owe since the gov't doesn't take taxes out of unemployment checks...
