How much unemployment can someone usually claim if they get fired/laid off?

you get ~1/2 of what you make, but usually max out to around $400-500, and if you have kids, maybe another $50 or so each.

So the max is around $400-500/month?

Are the chances good that this person will receive the max?

thats PER WEEK, I don't think you can live coming from $72k/yr to 500/month! anyway, it vary from state to state, the max amount for my state is around $480, I think...you need to call your local unemployment office.

It all depends on your state UI regulations.
Here in NY they take the last 18 months of your employment history and give you approximatley 75% of it, with a maximum per week allowance of XXX dollars.

You know that there are legitimate claims for unemployment benefits, right?

Like what? What's a person's excuse for losing their job and not haved saved up a little bit of money for something like that?
