A well thought and informative response. Thank you for participating. Now go get some ice cream and watch sponge bob.
I know I'm a dick, but @fskimospy and others have explained countless times how things like this could be "sustainable" on this forum so it is readily apparent to me that if you actually wanted to understand it you would by now. Anyway, I'm happy you are getting a whiff of good socialism that you can't afford to shit all over so maybe you won't be so quick to object to other forms in the future.

Take universal health care for example. Just because you get sick doesn't mean you won't die. The idea is to help as you can for as long as you can.

So your response is "a guy on the internet says it's a good thing".

Information here.

This is good for me personally as I'll qualify for benefits, but don't see how it's sustainable.

I think this is do to the recent CARES law. As a two trillion dollar spending spree-which amount is roughly double what the usual federal budget is in total, and which contains giveaways for nearly everyone and all sectors of industry, I don't think sustainability was anywhere involved in the thought process. Derr Donald wanted his name on the checks, GOP conservatives wanted tons of money to give their corporate benefactors, etc.

I was a bit surprised as well. Pre-COVID I was working full time self employed even though I had started drawing Social Security. My job is classified as essential (which to me is a joke) but I'm not going to risk my life for it. I haven't investigated UC, and I doubt that I would apply even if I'm eligible. You see we liberals tend to have and follow a moral code.

Nothing is free.
And it's a fucking shame too. I busted a guy's mirror driving an unfamiliar vehicle and could have done it for fee but stopped and left a note and paid for the repair. Self respect can get expensive. What puzzles me is that, if the universe is dying of entropy, what happens to all the heat when it's the only thing left?

That's because you're an honest person, and that's right and proper. Honesty has cost me tens of thousands of dollars over the years, and I don't regret it. You don't have to change the world, just take care of your little corner of it.

Right, and when a pandemic like this comes along and wipes out 22 million jobs in a single month, those 22 million just need to bootstrap their way out of it.

I don't know what that has to do with my statement. Are you suggesting that dishonesty is a part of the solution?
As far as the lost jobs go, the rest of us are going to have to subsidize those people. Unfortunately, we're doing it wrong. Handing checks to people that weren't damaged by the lock down was a mistake, that money should have gone to those directly affected.

"You don't have to change the world, just take care of your little corner of it." My comment was a response to this part. We do need to change the fucking world, because it doesn't need to be as fucked up as it is. Ignorance stands in the way of that. It's fine if you don't want to put in the effort to understand our monetary system. All I ask is that if that is the choice you make, don't ever comment on it because you make the world worse every time you spread your FUD about "sustainability" or whatever.

I'm glad to see you still don't understand how any of this works, but continue to make statements as if you do.

Odd response. No information, just a proclamation of your superior position. Not a particularly convincing argument.

Go ahead and prove me wrong by actually consuming some information with an open mind:

This explains what we need to do, and at the bottom is a handy link for people like you who inevitably ask where the money will come from.

Thank God for Andrew Yang who introduced this shocking proposition way back so that it's already something people have heard would be a good idea. And thank God for Sanders who suggested that its people that matter. Might help keep a lot of people from falling off their chairs.
