Unemployed time in between jobs, does that look bad on a resume?

Make up something freelance.
Example:
2009-2010 Freelance hedge fund manager. Made lots of money.

ommit months, like someone else mentioned...... although if you maintained a linkedin account, you should make sure to modify that, too. they may look at that, your facebook, whatever nowadays

Yeah, its pretty funny. Most people have to lie these days in order to be considered for jobs. Which is dishonest to begin with but I guess thats what employers prefer.

Sort of like how I have 15+ years as a software engineer (self taught myself in high school and found a job when I was 19 that hired me - 35 now) but if I put my resume out there without listing a college degree, I will never get a call back. I just list that I have an associates degree on there even though I don't. They'd never know and never check, and anything I would have learned in college would no longer be relevant anyhow. In those days it was mid 90's and nobody programs with Fox Pro, or any of those other ridiculous tools anymore.

I've had some gaps in my employment history. They ask about it so just be prepared to answer honestly. It has never really been an issue for me though.

Hummm, not sure about your place(s) of employment but everywhere I worked, HR did check credentials. If you lied and said you got a degree, that would be termination even years later.
