Just got the 815EEAAL mobo and have one HD on Primary IDE. My CD Rom will work as the 2nd device on the primary IDE but not as a stand alone device on the secondary IDE. master/slave jumpers are properly configured...both IDE enabled in BIOS and both set to Auto Detect..
Anyone else come across this? I've got two CD devices and want them both going...necessitates the use of both IDE.
Maybe one HD and one CD on each IDE? dumb, but It crossed my mind...

Are you using a UltaATA66/100 drive ribbon cable? If you are then the cables might be set to use cable select for the hd amd cd roms. Try switching the drive locations on the cable then see if that helps

You may want to use the Intel INF updates. This updates the drivers for all of the new components on the 815 chipset. This INF update may be on your install CD or you could probably downlaod it from the ASUS website(should work on any 815 board). Here is a link to the ASUS website to download the most recent drivers.

Also, go into device manager and look under "Hard Disk Controllers". If you only see "Primary IDE" listed, there's a very good chance that you'll solve the probalem using the INF updates. Let us know if that works or if you've already done this.

Update the BIOS to the latest version. My D815EEAL wouldn't recognize all of my RAM and some of my devices until I flashed the BIOS. It's been fine since.

I've got the same D815EEAL motherboard with all the latest drivers and firmware, etc., and a similar problem. It won't detect my DVD-ROM (AOpen IDE slot load) during the IDE device scan at bootup. However, once I'm in Win2K I can access the drive fine. I guess the only limitation I'm having is that I can't boot from it since it isn't properly recognized at boot. Still, it's pretty annoying...
