Question Undervolting

I have been reading a bit about undervolting. I have a 5060ti 16gb video card, and the fan winds up and gets pretty loud even just playing rocket league. All the videos and articles I have come across show them raising the mhz and lowering the mV. I am not looking to get an performance increase, as this card handles everything perfectly at the current speeds. The hope is that if I lower the voltage that the card will run cooler and not need the fan to spin up as much. Is this reasonable, or is undervolting really just more to get extra performance?

It will use less power and produce less heat. No real downside to a stable under-volt. The performance boost it can provide over stock settings is the cherry on top.
