I dropped the voltage from 1.35 volts down to 1.15 volts and it has been running stable for a while now, running two instances of prime 95, it hit 48C as the max temp. That's 8C lower than on stock voltage. Anyone else undervolt an X2 3800+ before? How low could you get the voltage before system instability. This was on stock cooling.

Update: I hit 1.1volts as the lowest I could hit with this system before instability. It is at 46C under load. Pretty low temps.

Update: 1.1 volts was the lowest I hit with the cpu, it passed a 7.5 hours torture test perfectly.

Mine, an x2 at one time when I first obtained it ran 1.13 vcore @ 2.0ghz at 39c extremely stable. Currently resident at 1.45v @ 2.32ghz at 41c and stable just about everything I threw at it.

Depends on your chip how low you can go. What are the 35W EE SFF versions running at? 1.00v? Something like that. Shouldn't be unreasonable to expect other chips that weren't necessarily binned for that to go down that low. I'd bet you hit a wall under 1.0v though.

Certainly won't hurt the chip to try! You won't know the stability point for your chip until you test it. Chips are like snowflakes, or a box of chocolates. The only way to find out if it's any good is to take a bite of it. You can always put it back with the bite side down if you don't like it.

What cooler is the question? With my XP-90 I could run 2.4GHz @ stock voltage on my Opty 170 and be idling under 30 C, load didn't get near 48 C I think; but its been a while.

At stock (1.35v / 2.0 GHz), my setup (simlar to the OP's) will idle at 27c in 24c ambient temps. It hits about 38c under load.

Scythe Mine - FTW.
