T1's and stuff are actually used quite a bit. When you call a business chances are your call is being routed on one. Typically in the form or ISDN/PRI.

I imagine voip is slowly replacing lot of that though.

Also, Bill Gates was right when he said 640k is enough for anybody, that's 10 beers per second!
