Hi all, first post here. I'm trying to build my first PC and have found this site super helpful so far. I'm having trouble understanding what RAM to buy. I'm trying to build a budget photo-editing PC and have decided on an X2 +3800 with an undecided AM2 midrange mobo. Anything with good ratings in the $80-100 range. Anyway, so this machine would be used to run probably Photoshop Elements or PSP and some RAW converters, maybe an occasional game, and also watch some movies on. I have no plan to OC off the bat, but maybe some time in the future, and probably light oc'ing even at that point.
Now, I've got pretty much the basics of RAM down. I understand I need 240pin DDR2, and if I buy 1 gig I should get 2x512 sticks. But that's where my understanding ends. I have no idea what latency or speed or timings are and how they effect my end result. BTW, budget is a huge priority. I'd like to stay under $100/gig.
I searched here but didn't find anything that cleared if up...actually now I think I'm more confused. If anyone can help this newb out, or even just point me to some good understandable reading materials, it would be much appreciated. Thanks!
