First, I am posting this here because it was listed as "Topic: video card"
This is about the anandtech article here:
http://www.anandtech.com/video/showdoc.aspx?i=3411
It discusses the limitation of hardware when it comes to audio decoding in legally purchased videos, brought about entirely by copy protection. Which is all fine and good. But it left me wandering, what about videos that are not defective by design. (and by that I mean home videos and indie studios). Can the current class of cards output 8 chanel audio of either kind through HDMI? or do they require the purchase of said repeater cards...
PS. I really didn't like some of the terminology used in that article.. "The Invention: The Protected Audio/Video Path" - yea... invention... lets call it that. "AACS protects the data on the disc itself" - like a ski mask protects a rapist from his victim.
I recommend the author read this:
