Anyone know what type of wire is used? Home depot has 500' for like $25. I am thinking I could go to an electrical distributor here and get it much cheaper. But not sure what kind I would need. Of course the box at home dept has no details.

My fense says to use Solid core copper burial wire, however I have a friend with a genuine Invisible Fence and he's using stranded copper wire just fine (ie: the core of the wire is many fine wires instead of one solid wire). Just make sure you get burial grade wire.

ive wondered how long does it keep shocking him/her when it crosses the 'fence' line.
i mean if its a shock and then when the dog is 5 ft on the other side of the fence it stops again.
whats to stop the dog from enduring the brief pain for freedom if it is that way?

I use one to back up my chain link fence for one of my dogs that likes to escape all the time. I am using one of the extra strong collars and it does jolt you pretty good but its not that bad. In 2 years he hasn't once escape while wearing the collar. he figured it out pretty damn quik. Now I usually only make him wear it at night and early in the morning since he isn't as bad about it anymore.
As for the people that think its cruel it was either the shock collar or chaining him up. I think he is happier this way.
