They are not nearly as bad as people think.
Mine was just with a shot of novacaine.
Just a little soreness for a day.
They gave me a prescription for something, but I just took some advil and it was fine.

No reason to get knocked out for a root canal. It's not that they're terribly painful so much as just terribly uncomfortable and tedious.

Haha, my Econonmics teachers offered this class clown 100 points of extra credit if he endured his root canal without anesthesia...

Which is probably illegal or something.

You should just have the tooth pulled instead.

I was going to get one, but the dentist took a second look and decided that the root canal wouldn't help my swelling, so he pulled the tooth. Saved me a lot of pain and money.

Now I got to get an implant. hopefully it is covered by my "medical" insurance since I need to see a dental surgeon for this.

Actually 45 minutes is pretty fast for a root canal.

Good luck, you have a real speed demon of a dentist.

Wisdom teeth are way worse.

I've had both, several root canals actually. My teeth are 'soft' and several cracked 2 happened in my sleep and I don't even grind my teeth. 3 root canals, and one I need to go in and get done. Couple hours in a chair, couple days of mild soreness. The sensitivity of the decaying tooth is way worse than the post-root canal pain.

I had all 4 wisdom teeth out while I was awake. That was 1000x worse.

Seriously? I've always been under the impression that root canals hurt way worse. I had my wisdom teeth out 5 years ago, and I made sure they put me under for that. It wasn't so bad, and the Dr. gave percoset for the pain.

Don't believe everything you read on the internet.

Properly done, a root canal with a post and crown is completely safe and is a MUCH better alternative that a freakin' gap in your mouth.

I still got my bottle of percos from when I had my teeth out. Didn't use any.

Much cheaper to just have it yanked! ;)
