Underclocking my Duron 700 without an HSF, Ok idea?

I have to return my HSF for a new one, but in the meantime, i want to see if my Duron and Abit Kt7a is alright... would my duron be alright if i booted the computer up without an HSF, and if i underclocked it from 700 to 600?

NO! I don't think you can, even with older CPUs. Maybe if you hit 1 volt, 400 mhz 😉 but otherwise it seems like a bad idea to me. I mean, my slot tbird 700 does 1.3 volts 500mhz (voltage doesn't go lower) but I wouldn't try removing the hs/f

you'd have to clock it down to somewhere around 50mhz i'm guessing, and the voltage would have to be something like .30(this is all just a guess) so unless your mobo can do it, no way you can run it without a heatsink

Do not try this at home! My new P3 900mhz FCPGA popped off the HSF, it made a loud "blang" noise. I looked at it, case is always off, the heatsink was off, rotated, and nowhere near its assigned post. I shut my system down and reseated the HSF. It is now running at a 1008mhz. I believe the hype in processor cooling is a little overblown.
