after upgrading my PC, i put my old components to use as a file server -- easier said than done.

bottomline is my old liteon 300W PSU is my bottleneck now -- i found that i couldnt boot up when i had 4 HDDs, 1 CDRW and 1 zip drive. but once i took out the zip drive, i could boot up. i'm thinking of underclocking my 1.1ghz Cumine celery to 666mhz (11x66mhz).

question is, how much would that help in terms of power and heat reduction? and how much of a vcore can i reduce by?

ps. related question: anyone know if coppermine's suck power off the 5v or 12v rail?

Wow, you're willing to take that much of a performance hit so that you can keep the same PSU? Why not just get another power supply? You're probably going to have to get a new one sometime anyway, since power requirements for computers tend to go up as time goes by. You'll also be less likely to fry your PSU; even if you are able to use your Lite-on by underclocking the processor, I wouldn't be surprised if the Lite-on conks out sometime down the road.

well, i figure since i'm only gonna use the file server once in a while to back stuff up, i dont really want to spend much more money on it ... besides, a file server doesnt really need all the cpu power rt?
