Underclocking CPU on Laptops

Hi All,

Just wondering if anyone can tell me if it is beneficial to underclock my Inspiron 6000 if not running off the battery. I understand it puts less stress on both the CPU and memory and therefore makes it last longer, but I'm not too worried about that. I have a Vantec base cooler that drops the temp by about 4 to 5 degrees which I'm confident will help with heat. I'm most concerned about making the battery last longer than 5 years assuming that I don't actually run it off the battery at all.

Battery life will not be affected much when on A/C.

I would not underclock when on A/C, and instead would force CPU to run at full speed all the time when connected to A/C power. Also, undervolt CPU at all times (stress test to confirm stability at desired lower voltages). This combo allows P-M to run very cold, and using fan control, fan will be off most of the time, even though CPU is at full speed.

Lower voltage = lower temps = longer life for all, plus quieter operation.

Using Centrino hardware control for CPU speed and voltage, along with I8kfanGUI for fan control.
