Hi all.

I thought I'd throw an amusing question at you, the complete opposite of the usual.
I have a Q6600 G0 which is operating as a file & DB server, and I wondered is there any way to force it into a lower speed than 1440mhz (240x6)? At some times of the day and basically all night this machine is sitting almost completely idle and even at this lowest default setting under ASUS AIGear the machine is barely ticking over. It is drawing 0.9920V at this speed, but can it go lower? Also is there any better, more reliable utility for on-demand clock adjustment than the ASUS-supplied utility? I have used SpeedswitchXP on laptops but the Q6600 did not seem to be supported.

Do you really need it to go lower, or are you just seeing if its possible? You wont get a noticeable amount of lifespan difference out of the chip by doing this, and at that low voltage already, you arent going to have a huge difference in utility bills.....

Oh of course I don't need it to go lower, I just want to see if it's possible. It seems wasteful that the machine is still running 1.4ghz when the load in off hours could probably be served by a CPU half that speed even. :)

During peak hours usage full speed of 2.4ghz is necessary, but outside regular business hours the usage is irregular and low volume. I thought it might even be possible to have the machine enter sleep mode and wake on LAN activity, but this is too slow response.
